FAQs
Do you provide shipping?  Yes.  We have an account with and use FedEx exclusively.  Your snake(s) will arrive by 10:30 the next day.

Do you offer any guarantees?  Yes.  Our guarantee is two-fold.  Our balls are guaranteed for 48 hours after arrival.  If the snake should die within that period, the buyer will ship it back at his or her expense and a necropsy will be performed to determine cause of death.  If the snake was damaged in any way the guarantee will be null and void.  Otherwise the snake will be replaced, shipping included.  Furthurmore, if the snake should die within a 30 day period we will also ask that the snake be returned, we will have a necropsy performed to determine cause of death.  Should the results show negligence or damage of any kind the 30 day guarantee will be null and void.  Otherwise, a replacement will be sent.  Should an exact replacement not be available at that time, buyer can opt to choose another snake of equal value for replacement, wait for a new hatchling or have their purchase price returned.

Why are your young snakes smaller than others I've seen that are the same age?   At Serenity Serpents, we do not believe in speed-feed methods.  Some breeders/keepers will feed young snakes too frequently resulting in excessive growth rates.  While there has been no data as of yet proving this harmful in ball pythons, we do know that with most species it is indeed harmful to grow too quickly.  We believe it is safer and healthier for our charges to be grown closer to the way nature intended.

Why are ball pythons considered an investment?   Ball python morphs are valued by their beauty and rarity.  Let's say you want to invest $10,000 on a particular male morph that is a dominant or codom for his given trait.  You breed that male to a normal female and theoretically you would get a 50-50 split in the clutch.  So 50% of the eggs would hatch out as dom or codom (looking like the male).  You could then sell these hatchlings at market price for that particular trait.  Mature morphs are always worth more than hatchlings or sexually immature snakes.  The more mature, the higher the market price.  So lets say you hatched out six eggs and three of them are dom or codoms.  You could get more or less, but we'll say three.  You could then sell all three hatchlings for $5000.  So you have made $5000 off your initial investment.  If you have more than one mature female, thus more clutches, that amount goes up accordingly!
Ball python females, depending on maturity, will lay anywhere from four to eight eggs per clutch, once a year.  Unlike other snakes that lay many more, this is another reasosn for their value.  Also, more and more new and beautiful morphs are created all the time, furthur driving the price and demand.

Are they easy to keep?   Ball pythons are easy keepers.  They require a constant source of heat, containment, water and food.  Most breeders and collectors keep their snakes in rack systems which are like a series of heated drawers.  Freedom Breeder provides the best racks available.  Balls like to hide so this is a perfect habitat for them.  Some pet owners with only one or two snakes may opt for an aquarium.  If so, make sure to provide a consistent source of heat.  Light is not important, heat is.  The ideal temp is 85 degrees during the day and 80 degrees at night.  You can purchase a thermostat and a night-drop timer to maintain these temps.  If you use an aquarium, make sure there are lots of hiding places for your snake.

What about pet store ball pythons?   As with most other animals, snakes should not be purchased from a pet store.  Most are full of parasites and you can often pick the ticks right off them.  That is because most pet store balls are wild-caught.  They can be hard for the novice ball python owner to keep.  Often it is hard to get them to eat.  Many die.  It is always best to go to a reputable breeder.  Even for a normal ball python, which by the way you will pay much less for, and get a healthy snake.  Pet store prices run around $80 for a single normal ball python.  Breeders don't keep many normal males so you can obtain a much healthier snake for around $20-$30.
